Orhan Pamuk awarded honorary doctorate degree at Yale University
Pamuk received an honorary doctorate of letters at the university’s commencement ceremony on 23rd May 2010. Former prominents who were selected to receive honorary degrees from Yale were comparative literature expert Robert Alter; Nobel laureate in physics and US Secretary of Energy Steven Chu; the Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin; Knowledge Is Power Program (KIPP) founders Michael Feinberg and David Levin; psychiatrist Sir Michael Rutter; anthropologist Dame Marilyn Strathern; Liberian President Ellen Johnson Sirleaf; and renowned director Zhang Yimou.
